The Grand Parade

is honoured to present

Geoffrey Chaucer's 'Canterbury Tales'

Sponsored by The British Horse Society

Watch, cheer and marvel as those pilgrims ride before you in England's Medieval Festival's famous Grand Parade.

Chaucer's epic tale of pilgrims travelling to Canterbury Cathedral is recreated twice daily at England's Medieval Festival. Riders will gather from all over England to portray the many characters from this famous tale.

The Grand Parade will commence in the Kids Kingdom and proceed past the Castle where you can follow the pilgrims on their journey, not on this occasion to Canterbury Cathedral but to the Grand Arena, whereupon they will ceremoniously display themselves infront of you, the audience - our judges!

This is a competition for our pilrims and we look to you to cast your vote!

Ye Olde British Horse Society will have a stand located in the Craft Marquee and you are requested to visit them to vote for your favourite character. The winners will receive rosettes and a daily prize with a trophy awarded on the final day of the Festival for the overall best character.

Here are just some of the characters you may expect to see from this famous tale:

The Canon's Yeoman - The Clerk of Oxford

The Cook - The Doctor of Physic

The Franklin -The Friar

The Knight - The Man of Law

The Manciple The Merchant

The Miller - The Monk

The Nun's Priest - The Pardoner

The Parson - The Prioress

The Second Nun - The Shipman

The Squire - The Steward

The Summoner - The Wife of Bath

and of course...Chaucer himself!
